We are on track to build the best version of Fresh. We are pleased to return to the interwebs and the original home we once built. It seems as if we had left the house vacant for so long that cobwebs began to grow! Now, it is time to show the ways in which we managed to reinvent ourselves while we stepped away.
We cannot mention reinvention without shouting out Wussuppie Ent. CEO Eighty Gee [Albany, NY] His project, “Perfect is Boring” rekindled Fresh fire. ^P.I.B.^ is the closest thing to a Griselda mixtape that the Albany area has ever heard!
There’s something to be said about a body of music so strong that it forces you to reconsider your position in life. We are nowhere near finished building the Royal Freshness Kingdom so we decided it was not time to settle down and start a family. Perfect is Boring is the mixtape that finally pushed our leap of ambitious faith to the forefront.
We experienced a great deal of loss this past Fall – loss of occupation, end of relationship with significant other (+ step child) and loss of grandfather. Although the times were tumultuous, we fought twice as hard to get back on our feet. Throughout this entire process – bills were paid and journeys began. It all revolves back to the music – P.I.B. mixtape knocked down the final domino and ignited the beginning of a new chapter.
Within the Albany area – only a few major players exist. We did our scopework early on and discovered artist Eighty Gee via P.I.B. and a feature with Fuego Base. Throughout our search, we discovered not only was Eighty vying for a spot on Black Soprano Family Records but he was beginning to make connections with individuals like Rick Hyde, Heem, Streets Soprano and Fuego Base who all belong to B$F.
Another reason why he receives a Fresh stamp of approval as a 518 pioneer is due to his roots that sprout around him within the community. Eighty knows that without unity there is no community – so he planted his seeds early – as a father of nine he gives back to the community through partnerships, volunteering and work with local groups like SNUG to prevent gun violence. He once went down the wrong path and is now taking steps to right his wrongs.
The way he is making what was once wrongly done into right is by continuing to do right. He empowers those around him in the school communities and conducts strong nightlife movements via, “Show the World” showcases. We knew this man was a catalyst when he invited us to Buffalo to shoot behind the scenes for his interview with the father of Heem [Buffalo Black Soprano Family Member]
Off the strength of a strong showcase and solid post-game interview with this artist, we accepted the travel invitation. Unless you are authentic, you will have a hard time recognizing authenticity. Such struggle does not exist on this side. This was the first artist we spotted on our renewed journey and are forever grateful for the timing by which we discovered Eighty Gee. Such a monumental decision was made at a time where we now see – adversity was etched in stone. I was bound to face hardship last Fall – it was written. I just so happened to add onto it by making the hardest decision of my life. I am forever indebted to myself and the consistent growth I must achieve.
Good music moves people. Perfect is Boring sent a shockwave throughout my soul. Not only did it make me realize I was putting my time and energy in the wrong places but that I was being too picky with the content. Building a vault of content was the first step to create an avenue to where I could consistently post every other day.
Next, I started dropping VHS tapes no matter how clunky or bootleg they may have seemed. FreshVHSion still looks like a bootleg DVD when I post, but the editing, transitions, word matching and other components of video creation continue to improve through trial and error. Perfect is Boring !
