Joey the Kid landed from a crater in the 518 area. Crash landing into the crust of the Earth and shattering the ground entered Joey the Kid. His charisma and enigmatic nature make him unlike anyone seen or heard before in this area. Seemingly, this artist ushered in his own sound and it can be heard loud and clear on newest project, “DOGHOUSE.”
Let’s keep it all the way funky when we break it down. Just because we seem like Fresh New Kids on the block doesn’t mean we haven’t been studying music through journalism and research. Distinctly, we remember the days from 2014-2016 at parties as Joey was rapping at that time too. Just because we decide to write at peak hype says only more about our timing as we also must attest to the years put in by the artist to get to this point, as well!
Joey the Kid holds it down for the 518 because he brings about lively, rambunctious, punk-rock energy to his shows. The music strikes a chord because it encourages the art of moshing which adds an incredibly fascinating layer of concert behavior. There inlies an entirely new steez to be unlocked when attempting to hop in the mosh. Luckily, we had tried it out at Aila Chiar’s DIY Prom and also at Jenny Marie’s Starlight so this wasn’t our first mosh trial. Several errors may have been made en route to finding such rich film experiences on VHS.
Interestingly enough, Joey tears through this project with some very high quality tracks. Notably, “Radio Play” was a track that stood out due to its sheer chaos and the way it combines three songs into one. This project has a very definitive way of ushering the listener through this new journey, too via skits, varieties of new sounds and various voices that create a bridge to the next track.
Before we move on to discuss the next track – there must be something said about the final song in “Radio Play.” The way Joey turns the dial up and takes us to a place of fresh newsTalgia – stems directly from the way it sounds like he turned the station to this emphatic final segment. The song must be played in its entirety to fully appreciate the full effect.
Another jam goes by the name of “Macs Park” – Blue Slide? These tracks continue to crack open a unique lane for this artist and the visuals accompany the tracks with great motion.
Thankfully, the night we captured Joey’s set at Plurnto & Friends – Night Owl, Saratoga, somebody asked to film the filmmaker. May the mosh live on! We managed to capture four artists and nearly one hundred different concertgoers on VHS, two of whom have already been posted on Instagram. Our platforms coexist similarly with the artists in the sense that so many clips have been populated, we just try to time them all up correctly.
Thank you for your time and we hope you enjoy the homemade VHS tapes that accompany this article. Check the Fresh !
