Dave East’s Rare Verse on ‘Al Kabir Beach’

Dave East and Ransom recently dropped a collab tape called, “The Final Call.” Dave East often pushes himself to rap that coveted third verse and definitely holds his own on “Al Kabir’s Beach.”

Let’s go line by line to see why this verse is so well pieced together. You must listen to get the full effect.

Dave East [1:32]

I look at life different, my gears change up like a bike shiftin’

Every chance I get, it’s new edition like I’m Mike Bivins (Uh)

Freshynthesis

East starts the verse with a transportation reference which teleports us in reminiscent fashion. They traveled back in time together.

Talked to God after that murder, wasn’t quite religious

Auntie had a case of slight dementia, shit, this life’ll whip ya (‘Member that)

Bible scriptures, Mama read ’em, no Santería practice (Nah)

Freshynthesis

At this point the listener may begin to think this verse has to do with his Mom or Aunt

Hit the botánica for blessings, I got FIFA passion (Bless)

Kick it lightly, tread water if you can’t swim

Never panic, the rent due on the first, some niggas can’t spend (Gotta hold on)

Freshynthesis

This is such a rare way to describe herbal meditation

Dose of reality lines

Lost so many times, you start believin’ that you can’t win (Can’t win)

East and Ransom, meet up at the Khan Savour to plot alone

Constantin Vacheron, Soho streets cobblestone (Uh)

Freshynthesis

Nuanced word combinations and elegant pronunciation to keep the audience engaged

Horsepower like a panther, I’m smellin’ like my cologne

She kiss below the mic

From Michelob nights to switchin’ whips up on sight

Freshynthesis

continues to dip and dive

Before the flight, I need to zone

I need some pressure, need some pain, of course

Freshynthesis

interlayered triple pattern to talk about needing airplane relief

Mama crib, it came with chores

Shorty ball like Angel Reese, still wonder what my angels doin’ (I wonder)

Here the audience is left wondering who East is talking about. Mom? Aunt? Girl? Mary Jane? He ties it all together and delivers this verse so well that it is very difficult to tell.

Check out the full tape to hear a tribute to Malcolm X and a collaboration tape where those involved cause competition. These two compliment each other and go bar for bar asynchronously. East and Ransom even tapped Jay Electronica for a verse. Strong tape.
